If my business creates videos for our blog, do they count as content?
This is a question that I’ve been asked numerous times by smaller businesses looking for an easy way stand out among their competitors. It’s a fantastic question and the answer is simple – ABSOLUTELY!
Videos DO count as a type of content, and like any type of content they should always be posted on your blog and shared across all of your social media outlets.
The key to having a successful presence online, is to generate unique, engaging content on a daily basis. Creating original video content will not only keep your audience engaged but also establish information diversity within your blog.
Many businesses forget that content is more than just typed out words. Items such as charts, graphs, memes, infographics, podcasts, animated gifs, and of course videos all count as types of content.
But how will search engines find my videos?
If you’re uploading your videos to YouTube your content WILL be found. The only thing you need to do is make your YouTube videos easier to find by optimizing the title, description and tags.
Although when it comes to embedding your video on your blog – you might want to maximize your video’s exposure by transcribing it into written words within the post. Why do this?
It will optimize your post. If you’re talking about specific keywords in your video, the transcribed content will optimize the post for those keywords as a result. So instead of just embedding the video and calling it a day – embed your video and post the transcription of the video underneath it. The written text will help you gain organic search traffic for that specific topic.
Accommodate a different type of Audience. Transcribed videos are extremely helpful to the hearing impaired. It’s also very accommodating for viewers who simply prefer to read a page of text then watch a video. When you offer both options of content, you allow your visitors a better user experience.
There are a couple of ways to transcribe your videos. You can do it manually which is very time consuming or you can copy and modify the transcript generated from YouTube’s automatic closed captioning feature after uploading your video.
What are the benefits of creating videos content?
Well besides optimizing your blog posts and accommodating different audiences, creating video content:
- Will allow you to make a personal connection with your audience by allowing them to see and hear you.
- Builds trust, and forms deeper relationships with your target audience.
- Explores your creative talent, and diversifies your output content.
